Do you like competitive online games? Then you certainly know the genre Battle Royale, popularized by PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), officially released in 2017 by South Korean studio Bluehole.

The title quickly became popular around the world and, as expected, several other studios began developing their own games in the genre. Each one has distinct characteristics from the others – and competition is the soul of evolution!

Players enjoy the style because of its intense combat and strong unpredictability: dozens of players are thrown into a large map and must search for the best weapons and items to try to stay alive until the end.

Anything can happen in the blink of an eye: you need a good dose of daring and strategy to be the last survivor! You can also play in teams, which makes everything even more interesting and challenging.

The Battle Royale genre arrived on Android a few years ago and already has millions of players: discover the main titles in 2023 and, of course, have fun!

Free Fire

Free Fire Battle Royale

Launched in 2017 by Garena, Free Fire needs no introduction: it is the best-known Battle Royale game for mobile. 50 players are thrown into one of the available maps and everyone has 10 minutes to decide the match.

There are several game modes and you can choose the one that interests you the most – whether ranked or unranked. In ranked mode, players from an entire region compete for the best position to gain notoriety.

In addition to weapons, armor, ammunition and healing items, vehicles are also scattered around the map to facilitate mobility. But be careful: the sound of the engines may alert other players to your presence!

The game is free to play, but you can spend real money on cosmetic items to customize your favorite items and characters.

Fortnite

Developed by Epic Games since 2017, Fortnite is one of the most famous Battle Royale games worldwide for PC and, a few years ago, its version for Android was released. It has basically all the features of the computer version, in addition to the beautiful graphics.

But there is one difference between Fortnite and its competitors: you can build structures on the map to temporarily shelter yourself and protect yourself from danger.

The amount of skins for sale in the cosmetics store is huge: there are hundreds of options to choose from and many of them are from famous franchises, such as Marvel, DC, Capcom, etc.

Finally, one of the highlights of Fortnite is the various personalized events that occur within the game: some time ago, rapper Emicida performed a concert within a universe created especially for the occasion. Players could interact with each other and carry out various activities during the performance.

Call of Duty: Mobile

One of the most acclaimed first-person shooter (FPS) game series in the world has launched its Battle Royale for Android. The combat is very intense: there are 100 players in total on the same map competing for first place!

There are several modes: Battle Royale, Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Control. In addition, there is the Zombies mode, in which players team up to try to control countless hordes of zombies.

Several maps, such as Nuketown, Crossfire and Hijacked, were inspired by previous titles in the Call of Duty franchise. With over 100 million downloads worldwide, it is one of the most acclaimed titles on mobile devices!

Farlight 84

Created to be a direct competitor to Free Fire, Farlight 84 has two differences that make it unique: the jetpack mechanism and the types of vehicles found on the maps.

During combat, the 60 players can use jetpacks to quickly move forward, backward or sideways, adding an extra dose of speed to combat. All vehicles have special features, such as turbo boosts, temporary invisibility or even modes that turn them into robots or stationary turrets.

Like all other titles, it has the standard Battle Royale mode and many other game modes, such as Deathmatch, Solo and Vehicle Only. Its cosmetic item store is somewhat controversial, as it is more focused on lootboxes (which basically work like lotteries).

A really cool feature of Farlight 84 is that all the progress made by the player on mobile can be transferred to PC and vice versa.

Arena Breakout

The proposal of this title is a little different from the others: combat with a more realistic feel, inspired by Escape from Tarkov and, instead of fighting until only one remains, you can also escape from the various maps available to win.

You can play solo or in a team. Since it is a more tactical game, it is always a good idea to think carefully before acting: choose your equipment carefully to gain an advantage over others.

Something that deserves to be highlighted in Arena Breakout is the weapon customization: parts can be assigned or modified to equipment to make them more effective in certain circumstances: for example, an assault rifle with a more powerful telescopic sight can cause more damage at long range.

The graphics are really nice, which means it might be a bit of a challenge for older smartphones. Anyway, it's worth a try, right?

Stumble Guys

This is the only Battle Royale on the list that isn't a shooter. Developed by Kitka Games, it's inspired by the chaotic and fun Fall Guys: 32 players parachute into colorful scenarios and must complete various challenges to advance.

There are three main game modes in Stumble Guys: Knockout, Team Knockout and Ladder Rush. Each map presents different levels of challenge for players – bumping into your teammates is more common than you might think!

Like all the other games on this list, Stumble Guys is free, but it has a cosmetics store for fans of the title who want to customize their characters.

And you: do you play or have you played any of these Battle Royale titles? Which are your favorites?
